<p><strong>One of the most common problems I hear about when business owners come to me for marketing advice is that they are very frustrated with social media.</strong></p>
<p>For starters, most of the business owners I talk to already get the idea that social media has explosive potential to help them grow their businesses. But here&#8217;s the problem. Social media marketing, when not done properly, is a huge waste of time. And if you&#8217;re not careful, adding to your social media presence can actually do more harm than good.</p>
<p><strong>Case study:</strong></p>
<p>A local business owner called me the other day and said he was fed up with it, and willing to give it one more shot before he gives up. I said, well, what have you tried? He went on to say he has tried to set up a Facebook page for his business. So he sent out an email to his list to promote it, but he only ended up with about 60 fans and never made a single sale from it. Next he tried a Twitter account. He had his secretary post some tweets, which lasted for about 2 weeks, and then he ruled out Twitter as a viable option as well. He said he was frustrated about the time that was wasted that he was paying good money for. And now he says he is thinking of giving up on the once wonderful and promising world of social media marketing.</p>
<p>Sound familiar? This is a very common situation.</p>
<p>The problem? No system. No strategy. And no good advice on what <em>no</em>t to do&#8230;.</p>
